2 weeks

Today, Little Girl is two weeks old and had her first doctor's appointment.

We all got up at 5am (one of her normal early morning eating times) to get ready for the 9am rendez-vous. It was her first car ride since she came from the hospital. She slept through most of it and seemed to like the motion and noise of the car. Despite having a hard time finding the doctor's office, we were among the first of the "well," appointments. At this office there is a waiting room divided into "sick," and "well, " reception areas.

We were called back, and little girl was weighed, and she's up to 9ibs 13oz. At this visit the infant is suppose to be at her original birth weight. For her weight she's in the 75th to 90th percentile. For her length she's in the 50th to 75th percentile. Both measurements are well within the normal and healthy category. Next, a nurse came in and got some blood from her heel for the PKU B test. The first test, PKU A, was done in the hospital. The nurse was so surprised because Little Girl sleep through the heel stick and while the nurse was squeezing her heel getting the blood!! She was so good she got her first sucker.

The doctor looked her over, and Little Girl has an umbilical hernia. It sounds worse than it really is. The doctor said the hole is pretty small and probably will not require surgery, that it will close up on its own. The doctor is monitoring the healing. The only repercussion is she may have an outie belly button, but that's not so bad.

The only other problem is that she may be having a hard time with gas. This would explain why she gets upset all of a sudden then after a few minutes she falls asleep almost instantly. She gave us some tips to ease the gas problem and will monitor the situation.

Afterward, we actually went through the drive through at Backyard Burger and ate our lunch quickly in the car. We then went to Walgreens to have Little Girl's passport pictures made. She was so good and slept through the whole exciting ordeal while the folks at Walgreens called to find out all the infant passport photo requirements and figured out a way to take her picture on the photo center counter covered in a backdrop of white t-shirts. Next, we went over to the grandparents for awhile before heading home. We were pretty exhausted and went to bed at 6:30pm.

I will have to say that it looks like our baby will be an easy traveling baby with all the running around we did on our first day out iin the world in two weeks.
