The next day

Yesterday, R went to her first doctor's visit. They had wanted to do blood work, but R had eaten breakfast (even though it was about 6 hours earlier) so they told her to come back today.

After fighting rush hour traffic at 7:30 in the morning and taking a few wrong turns, we finally arrived at the hospital. You don't get an appointment for these type things. You go in when you can, and they work you in whenever they can. We took a number and went to the waiting room. They displayed our number, and we went to the receptionist's desk. They asked us a few questions, and when we didn't understand they switched to English. How nice!! They called R back to get her blood work done, and I waited for them to get all the paperwork done. About the time R came out, I was paying the bill.

R had to eat something immediately, but it pretty much wiped her out for the rest of the day. She was able to cancel her Portuguese lesson and take several naps, which helped.

First Doctor's Appointment

On March 6, we were able to make our first doctor's appointment here in Portugal at the British Hospital. We had suspected that R was pregnant.

The appointment was for March 18, at 10:15. A friend of R's took her to the appointment in case she needed help with Portuguese. But she had no problems since the doctor used to practice in France and speaks French and enough English to get her point across. After a long sit in the waiting room, R was called back. They did a sonogram and indeed R is about 6 weeks pregnant. She even got to see the heartbeat!!

When R got home we went to the mall, and I got a Papa Smurf shirt.

For sure this will be another adventure for us; parenting. We will need all the help, support, and prayers we can get.
